Frequently Asked Questions

General

Why is there a new membership scheme?

Since 2018, the Association has been in close contact with the Academy's administration team to devise a new plan that involves setting up an Alumni Office under the Academy's administration. The primary aim is to allow the School to directly engage our alumni, and enhance our alumni's sense of belonging to VSA. The new scheme offers you a free, life-time membership.

Who manages this membership scheme?

The VSA Alumni Office manages this scheme, in which the staff is responsible for approving applications and printing alumni cards. Both the Alumni Committee and the VSA Alumni Office have access to the membership database, so that we can contact you when necessary.

Is it mandatory for all VSA alumni to apply for membership?

No - it is purely voluntary to apply for the membership. However, please note that in order to have access to the alumni benefits, you will need a membership. This is for security reasons so that the Association and the Academy, for example, have a record of who attended an event, who has access to our online services, and who may visit the campus.

When do I need to apply?

There is no fixed deadline as to when to apply. You may choose to apply as soon as you graduate, or come back in few years' time and apply for it, yet we strongly encourage you to apply upon graduating so that you get updates starting from then. The VSA Alumni Office processes applications twice a year, and deadlines are on 30 June and 31 December of each year, so please have that in mind. If you decide to apply right before a scheduled alumni event, your application may not have been processed by then, hence you will not be able to join the event.

What if I graduated from DP in or before 2018 and have a membership with the Association?

We do not wish to segment 'old' and 'new' members in the new membership scheme, so the Association will omit the existing database that we have and will not transfer any data from it to the new database. We strongly encourage you to sign up to the new membership scheme as soon as possible to receive updates.

If you do not wish to apply for the new membership scheme, your alumni benefits will be ceased shortly after 30 June 2020, which includes suspension from using the online services. However, if you wish to apply for the membership at any point, your will be able to access your alumni benefits again. This will include your Google account being activated again, in which the contents in Gmail and Drive will be restored.

If you have forgotten whether you have a membership or not, please do not hesitate to contact us and we can check it for you.

After submitting an application

How do I know if my application has been successful or not?

You will receive an email from the VSA Alumni Office after you submit an application to indicate if your application is successful or not. If successful, please expect to receive your alumni number in the email.

Please note that applications are only processed twice a year, in January and in July. Therefore, if you apply shortly after a deadline (30 June and 31 December of each year), your application will be processed after the next deadline that can take up to 6 months, so please do not worry if you did not receive an email promptly.

Can I access the alumni benefits if I have not yet collected my alumni card?

Yes. When signing up to your next alumni event, make sure you indicate your alumni number, then you will be able to attend the event. You will also be able to collect your alumni card at the event. If you wish to visit the campus, please make sure you also collect your alumni card from the VSA Alumni Office during that visit. Regarding access to our online services, you will receive an email in your personal email account notifying you the activation of your Google account when it is set up.
